Physical Editions:

1 Fides Krucker & Tim Motzer - Vanishing (1k043)
limited edition signed and numbered with poster!
the debut recording from Toronto avant-garde singer Fides Krucker & celebrated improvising guitarist Tim Motzer. This duo first improvised together at the Theatre Centre in Toronto in 2017; not long after they created an album's worth of material in Philadelphia. They think of these spontaneous compositions as sonic films—worlds that might have been, worlds that hint at what we’ve lost, worlds in which to disappear. Their first release, Vanishing, will be released in March 2019 on 1k recordings.

2 Swana Motzer Hirlinger - Channels (1k042)
limited edition signed and numbered with poster!
-the debut release by three celebrated Philadelphia musicians John Swana, Tim Motzer, and Doug Hirlinger — is an album that immediately beckons and challenges the listener with evocative, multilayered electro-acoustic improvisations and compositions. Channels originally began as a duo recording by Swana and Motzer. After a weekend of intensive, experimental improvisation at 1K Recordings in Philadelphia, they invited Hirlinger to respond on drums – which transformed the material. For several months afterward, Swana and Motzer pored over the live studio recordings, whittling down long-form improvisations and adding orchestral layers of brass to opening track “Lost.” Anthony Tidd (longtime member of Steve Coleman and Five Elements) contributed six-string, fretless electric bass melodies to “Drift” and “Channel.” The result is a uniquely intimate and urgent record – one that defies simple categorization and reveals its intriguing richness over time.

3 Tim Motzer - Beacon (handpainted and signed edition). (1k067) ($60 value)
A collector’s item, hand-painted cover by Tim Motzer, while they last. Each cover is a unique painting 5in x 10in. Beacon is an extraordinary solo set by Tim Motzer, recorded live at beloved music venue Quinn’s in Beacon, NY, in front of an audience who listened in rapture to this totally improvised 45-minute journey. Motzer begins his dramatic set exploring ethereal harmonic chord sequences on his acoustic-electric 12-string guitar & creating atmospheric cloud-like loops. Surprises abound, as the song, Snafu, veers to different landscapes and percussive terrains. Eastern themes emerge, constant re-inventions and re-orchestrations lead the listener through to a beautiful landing. Motzer has the innate ability to build captivating harmonic structures that seem to pull mesmerizing moods out of thin air. This set stays focused while untethering the cinematic dreamscapes to drift to where the music suggests it wants to go. Motzer follows this gloriously to the end, live without a net, in reverie.
Tim Motzer - 6 & 12 string acoustic-electric guitars, baritone electric, electronics, looping, semi-modular, sequencer, percussion, bow, cliks

4 Orion Tango - The Apple of No (1k033)
Top 20 Progressive Magazine 2017, Sid Smith
"Orion Tango's second album, The Apple of No, operates in the same quadrant of telepathic rock-based improvisation that King Crimson and Can explored so expertly in the 70s. This is no backward-looking knock-off though. Tim Motzer's elasticated guitar playing works with a super tight, empathetic rhythm section through four full-on suites bristling with ecstatic interplay. Their capacity to quickly sift through abstract layers to suddenly hurtle into cathartic release over quick-fire grooves makes this album a thing of wonder." - Sid Smith, Prog (UK)

5 Orion Tango (1k028)
The debut studio album by Orion Tango. "...imagine attending a concert in an intimate performance space—say, Pink Floyd performing at the UFO Club in 1967." The Lodge
Prog Rock (UK) Top 20 End of Year List!

6 Tim Motzer - Live from Stars End (1k024)
A sublime 57 minute solo performance by Tim Motzer, from the historic November 3, 2013 Stars End radio broadcast on WXPN-fm, utilizing various guitars, bows, alligator clips, electronics, harmonizers, loopers, delays, and reverb as his tools to create his world of sound. Not to be missed.

7 Nucultures - Butterfies Zebras and Moonbeams (1k013)
A kaleidoscopic 21 song double album featuring Ellie Perez, Barry Meehan and Tim Motzer. (top 10 album of the year-Echoes Radio; "a masterpiece" -Straight No Chaser UK)

8 Nucultures - The Zebramoon Remixes (1k014)
Gorgeous reconstructions from Tilomo, Tleilaxu, Jeff Sharel, The Society, Man From Nowhere, and more—a companion work to butterflies, zebras, and moonbeams.

11 Tilomo - Soft Lunch (1k011)
Tim Motzer—aka Tilomo—solo ambient, glitch, electronic masterwork.
"amazing textures and rhythms making it as close to Warp-style electronic as traditional ambient chill-out" - Burning Shed UK

12 Goldbug-The Seven Dreams (1k016)
The debut album featuring Eric Slick (adrian belew power trio), Theo Travis (Gong, Soft Machine, Robert Fripp), Barry Meehan (Base3, NuCultures), and Tim Motzer.

13 Tim Motzer/Markus Reuter-Descending (1k018)
A classic! Motzer and Reuter's duo project of ambient improvisations w/ UK flautist Theo Travis, BJ Cole's gorgeous pedal steel, Pat Mastelotto's traps & buttons, and Doug Hirlinger's spatial cymbal work. A stunningly beautiful album.

14 PAKT (moonjune)
The debut double disc of the meeting of the spirits: Percy Jones, Alex Skolnick, Kenny Grohowski, Tim Motzer. This album was recorded during the 2020 Pandemic at Shape Shifter Lab in Brooklyn, and the first meeting and recordings of this mighty band. PAKT recalls the fearless attitude and daring approach that originally defined progressive music: where the magic of the moment always triumphed over preconception. Templates be damned ... this music blazes its own path! This is truly exquisite fare, serving as a reminder to aficionados of what initially drew them to this most creative, visionary of genres.

15 PAKT – No Steps Left To Trace (moonjune)
PAKT, a true super group of master musicians merging & colliding new music in the realms of progressive rock, electric jazz, experimental, ambient, psychedelic and beyond, is an experience as much as a musical project. An IMAX film for the ears, PAKT takes its listeners on an improvised sonic voyage with no preconceived destination, minimal pre-planning and little use for forms and conventions. Tim Motzer, who produced this recording as well as providing artwork, says the following: “One of the things we all realized is that this band isn't going backward...it may be fueled by what we've done in the past, but really it’s a forward-evolving band composing in-the-moment, finding new language, and discovering our music as we go along. It's in that feeling that the title, ‘No Steps Left To Trace’, came to me because our music is a continuum, and more like a journey or an experience. We are, in a sense, tunneling or boring through the musical abstract toward and through to the ‘other side’.” Skolnick adds “From the moment we did our first performance together, it was clear that this project had a special chemistry that doesn’t happen all that often. The fact that we found this chemistry in our favorite Brooklyn venue, called Shape Shifter Lab, is fitting. It being the height of the 2020 Pandemic, that first show was streamed, with no audience present. Our first studio album ‘No Steps Left to Trace’, is a return to us just playing to each other, only this time, we have a number of live shows and touring under our belt, recorded in a high-quality studio. It’s a great document of PAKT in 2021.”

16 Reuter Motzer Grohowski - Shapeshifters (moonjune)
A night of overwhelming emotion, suspense, drama, intrigue and, ultimately, reverential awe ... there were, most certainly, some superhuman skills on display; a session which defied conventional logic, entrancing and astounding all the on-hand observers; and a recording which thumbs its nose at convention, while fully embracing its alien roots ... morphing, gleefully, at will – yet again, referencing shapeshifting through the spinning of another timeless epic ... and finding all three principle participants at their most sensitive, transformational best.
Markus Reuter - touch guitar. Tim Motzer - guitars, bass, electronics. Kenny Grohowski – drums

17 Blade Of (Carlstedt, Motzer, Torn) – The Flowering Am (1k064)
The debut of this improvising trio (Blade of) features guitarists David Torn, and Tim Motzer with NYC drummer Jeremy Carlstedt. Their new release, The Flowering Am, marks their first recording together, a first meeting with the deepest of dives into sphere-like sonic territories. These texturalistic explorers, with two guitars, drums, and electronics, create a sound density closer to that of an orchestra at times, with Torn’s textures and Band of Gypsies-like overtones floating and spinning through this sprawling set of music. Carlstedt’s drumming flips the equation too, utilizing Chico Hamilton’s vintage 18” kit, he creates exquisite firestorms, dynamic nuance, and propulsion in the music without overpowering it. Motzer, with his acoustic-electric guitar, shapeshifts throughout as sometimes bassist, soloist, and sonic re-arranger exploring the edges, curves, and corners in these astonishing journeys.

18 Kurt Rosenwinkel Bandit65 – Searching The Continuum (heartcore)
BANDIT 65 is a mesmerizing post-jazz sonic trio of breathtaking virtuosity, great power, boundless breadth, and astounding beauty. Kurt Rosenwinkel, Tim Motzer, and Gintas Janusonis explore the intersection of guitars, rhythms, electronics, soundscapes, experimentalism, psych-rock, free improvisation, and telepathic interplay. Bandit 65 explores a wide-open canvas, searching and pushing the envelope live and discovering captivating mind-blowing multidimensional landscapes of sound in their improvisations. Their debut album, Bandit 65, was mixed by Tyler McDiarmid at StadiumRed, Ornette Coleman’s former studio, in Harlem NYC.

BONUS:
19 Tim Motzer / Gregg Bendian - The Eternal (1k069) hi-res digital download
The Eternal, the debut release of improvisational duo Tim Motzer & Gregg Bendian, is the astonishing result of their first collaboration. Blending Motzer’s hypnotic, guitar-driven soundscapes with Bendian’s evocative, spacious tapestry of orchestral percussion, The Eternal traverses dynamic and dramatic landscapes – at times soothing, at other moments haunting and unsettled. These adventurous explorations might sit in the same musical realm as Takemitsu, Feldman, or Stockhausen, or the cinematic atmospheres of Jerry Goldsmith or Bernard Herrmann. Through their profound alchemy, Motzer and Bendian have spontaneously composed music that thrums with a sense of something primordial yet uncaged by time.
